Osmania University files for trademark

Hyderabad: The DPIIT IPR Chair of Osmania University has filed for Trademark (TM) of exterior design of the OU Arts college. Once the TM is registered then the building image cannot be used for marketing of services, and branding for commercial usage by third party without prior permission from the University. Subhajit Saha, TM agent and IP practitioner for the applicant mentioned that this will be the third TM filed for building in India. Before this, the Taj Mahal Hotel in 2017, and later the Bombay Stock Exchange are registered TMs in India. Exuding confidence that the trend will soon catch up, he said, ‘awareness needs to be brought in to register more such iconic buildings.
